Gilani the Ascetic

Yarınkuş entrusts important information to Eşref to convey to the caliph but the way to Baghdad, Eşref is attacked by bandits that leads him to Gilani.

Gilani is troubled with the water management in the city and writes the Amir a complaint letter. Eşref, the constable, arrests Gilani and takes him to the police chief.

Gilani and his disciples help repair the gutters in the city and bring water to the ghettos while Turahan and Eşref are after a fugitive Sabbahi, who comes across Gilani in the desert.

Eşref is accused of betrayal and is wanted dead by Amir. Eşref takes refuge in Gilani's lodge but he is not welcome.

Eşref, curious about the horse that brought Sabbahi, releases it at night. Gilani protests interest rates & knocks on qadi's door.

Kamran wants to discontinue his trade business in Baghdad, for which Eşref must convince him to resume it. But Kamran has one condition: interest, which Gilani rejects.

Sofia vanishes while shopping in the souk while at bazaar with Amir's harem. Merchant Kamran tries to bribe mullah Gilani to issue a fatwa on interest.

Sofia sends Eşref a handkerchief as a sign of affection. Vizier Azam announces Mansur as the new vizier and asks him to take Sofia as his gift.

Gilani is arrested and thrown into the dungeon. His disciples are helpless as he is to be tried in court for being a Sabbahi.

Sofia fears Eşref suspects her of being a Sabbahi. Gilani is forbidden to teach or leave his lodge until trial, but he defies the order.
