10 Years on the Devil's Island

Ottoman police officer Cemil rebels against the occupying French soldiers harassing the people of İstanbul, which results in him being handed over to the French authorities to be punished.

Held captive under increasingly harsh conditions, Cemil befriends other Turkish prisoners. In order to escape from this seemingly endless captivity, he conceives the idea of escaping.

During his days in French Guiana, Cemil attempts to escape with a few other prisoners, and the escapees soon learn that the soldiers are not the only danger they must overcome.

Cemil is almost sentenced to death due to a misunderstanding. Knowing that the war is now over, he writes letters to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk -the president of the new Turkish state- with the hopes of becoming free once again.
